The week of the Greek!

Its that time of year again! Greek Week!

So for those of you not in a fraternity or sorority, Greek Week is a week full of events where we compete against each other all for the coveted 1st place trophy and bragging rights of course! I know what you are thinking wait girls vs guys so unfair. Nope it is the fraternities vs fraternities and the sororities vs sororities. So basically guys vs guys and girls vs girls. Now at bigger schools this can get pretty interesting as to who is going to win. However, at my school there are only 2 sororities that actively participate in the events. So in our minds its you're first or you're last. Last Year, we dominated and took home 1st place (after a 12/13 year losing streak) heck yeah! So, this year we are out to defend our title!

All Dressed up for the week. I even did my make up. Yeah it is that important! :)

Now you are probably wondering what kind of events we have, and if not I am gonna tell you anyway. There are the typical sporting events like football and volleyball. We used to play basketball, but that usually ended in fist fights...We also have some neat Greek themed events like Chariot racing, Greek Games (tug of war, 4x4 relay race, dizzy bat, mattress race, and pyramid race). Now you are probably wondering what all the races are. The chariot race is where the fraternities build a "chariot" and then one of the sorority girls rides in it as they race around a course. Mattress racing is where four people run while carrying a mattress that has a person riding on it. Pyramid racing is where six people run, build a cheerleader pyramid, and then recite the Greek alphabet before running back. These sound ridiculous but are really very fun!

This is one of the chariots that the fraternities we were paired with made. On the negative side, neither chariot our partners made actually made it through both time trials.

We also have the non-athletic events for those that are coordinately challenged lol. These are the trivia contest and eating contest. Trivia you think would be easy, but I don't know where they find these questions. I think the only person who might be able to answer them all would be Ken Jennings lol. Of course the eating contesting is just scarfing down food like pizza, donuts, hot dogs, and zebra cakes as fast as you can without barfing. It is disgusting!

We also like to be community centered and raise funds for some charity. This year we are going caning in the city. I think that means we are wandering around like begging people for their cans? I am not exactly sure we'll see come Thursday what happens. Fingers crossed it won't snow!

Then there is the Holy Grail of Greek Week. Greek Sing/Airband. Greek Sing is where every group sings a song that is special to their fraternity/sorority. I can't sing very well so I don't usually choose to participate. Airband on the other hand is where we don't sing at all. Every group has ten minutes to perform a lip sync routine to any songs of their choice. Sometimes they have themes. Last year our theme was a time warp. We did songs from the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, and current ending with the machine breaking and playing Don't Stop Believin. The themes are top secret until the performance so that they aren't stolen by other groups. I'll let you know how this years goes after Friday night!

Here is last years performance that won us first place!

Rain Rain Go Away

Come Back Again Another Day...

Does anyone remember the rest of that rhyme? I tried to Google it, but all I found where ones that I had never heard before.Oh well, it really wasn't important and was just supposed to be the title for my post about the rain. However, now I am going to spend the rest of the day attempting to remember nursery rhymes from my childhood. So I found this, but the last line was definitely not what I used to say...hum...

It's raining, it's pouring;
The old man is snoring.
Bumped his head
And he went to bed
And he couldn't get up in the morning.
Rain, rain, go away;
Come again another day

So, the real purpose of this post was to comment on the insane thunderstorms we had last night and this morning. Outside the building where I work part of the walkway was so covered with water that it looked like it was supposed to be a pond to begin with. Then steps had turned into a waterfall. When I finally made it into the building I was relieved to be out of the water. However, I was in for a surprise. I went down stairs to find that the inside was as bad as the outside. The floor was collecting water. Deciding that the combination of water and electronics was not a good thing I called to report it to the university's maintenance department. Rather than sit in the water I went to work form my laptop in the dry building next door. This is an epic fail for the flat roofed building. According to my boss, the same thing happened over the summer. Clearly this means that they fixed it so well...

I know that by the end of the day I am going to lose my umbrella. Since I cannot fathom the whereabouts of my small compact umbrella, I took a huge "golf" umbrella from the trunk of my car. It is the most annoying umbrella ever. It is pretty much a cane. I feel like I am an idiot carrying it around when everyone has their little baby umbrellas. I keep putting it on the ground under the table I am sitting at. I know that I will never remember to grab it when I leave. I know this because it has already happened once. I was sitting in the mp and I told myself "don't forget to grab the umbrella." Ten seconds later I was walking towards the library sans umbrella. Realizing this, I quickly back tracked and felt even more like an idiot. I have a feeling at the end of the day I am going to be roaming campus playing where's waldo for my umbrella.

I wish you all better luck staying dry today than I have had so far!

Lacking...

...In my blog postings...

So I have been lacking in posting for a while. I am not sorry to say that it is because I am working on getting a life which is time consuming. So, I would love to say that me getting a life is extremely exciting, but nope nothing of the sort. I have really dived into my thesis. I am talking to more people and getting more ideas for my paper. The biggest thing I am doing now is working on my IRB paperwork. I think I am pretty much finished with it, so I am going to have my adviser look at it on Monday and if it is good turn it in :) yay!

I have also been spending a lot of time looking into some job possibilities. It is insanely hard to find a job on the internet. I literally spent hours searching and only came up with one. This is an omen. Either like I am meant to have that job, or I am meant to work with my mother at Giant Eagle for a while after I graduate. I am hoping it is the former because I would really like to be able to pay off my student loans sooner rather than later.

There is also another way I am trying to get a life, but it is early and I don't want to jinx it. So, I am not going to talk about it. You'll just have to wonder :) unless you're Darlene or Kim (and that is a very likely since the two of you are like a third of my followers lol) then you know what I am talking about!

Well for some reason my phone is blowing up right now and I can't keep track. I am gonna go see why everyone wants to talk to me :)

Where is the Snow?

Epic Fail Weatherman & RMU...

So, last night I was told by the weatherman that a massive storm was supposed to be coming. Wasn't it supposed to rival Snowmageddon of 2010? Looking outside my car isn't even covered and the roads are clean. Which knowing my plan is impossible therefore we could not have had too much snow. So, even with the lack of snow my school decided to have a two hour delay. I am not complaining about this because it means that I don't have to go anywhere till I work at 1pm today. What I am going to laugh about is that my school has this text/email alert system for closures/delays. However, this morning my roommate Kim told me we had a delay before the alert did. Wow...really on top of things RMU. I think they are really just lucky that I wasn't already up and moving before I got my alert. I would have been upset...

Given that I was allowed more time to sleep this morning and even more to get ready. I got to sneak in a work out. This is exciting because I usually struggle to find time to get a work out in. This morning I had all the time int he world. It was fantastic! And now I am relaxing and watching the Price is Right. This is one of my favorite shows. When my Baba and Dzedo (grandparents) would babysit me when I was little we would watch it all the time. Well, my Dzedo and I would, he is a big game show fan. My Baba would change it to EWTN as soon as it was over. She is a big God fan. :)
Me telling them to bid $1

Well, now I watch the Price is Right whenever I am babysitting them :P oh how little the times have changed :)

Kim just tole me that there is apparently new maps out for Call of Duty Black Ops today...She is downloading them as I write this. If only I didn't have to go to work in an hour. Darn! Well, we will just have to play later...maybe while she is at work :P
Here's to hoping the "Snow" isn't going to make an appearance anytime soon!

A Recap...

So I haven't posted in a few days...

So this is going to be a recap of the exciting things I have done...Ok so they really aren't that exciting. I mean I am just an average person so the days are never that exciting.

Thursday was 100 Days Til Graduation. I cannot believe that it is so close. I am in no way ready to head out into the working world...but I am so over the homework and class side of academia. I wish I had a nice little cash fund that would allow me to just chill for a bit...but nope I'm too poor for that lol. But anyway to make this momentous occasion the senior class had a 90's party. It was crazy fun. My friends and I played with mouse trap and a ton of other old toys. I also sang some Karaoke. It was a fun time all around which I am accrediting to the cash bar ;) Being a intelligent human being seeing as the roads were getting bad and I had I few drinks I went to stay with Darlene at the Holiday Inn which turned into a fun/interesting night/morning.

Friday was the longest day of my life. After getting only about 4 hours of on and off sleep I was not prepared to stay up until 11/12. Well, I fully had planned to take a nap after work was over at 3pm, but when I got home Kim convinced me to head out to Barnes and Noble and to Market District. I of course cannot say no to shopping especially for books or food :) When we got back we decided to play some Call of Duty Black Ops and have a couple drinks. This turned into us attempting to kill people for hours on end. Eventually leading us to of course relax to some HGTV. Yeah, I know we have the weirdest taste.

Saturday Kim had a thing with her mom so I called up Darlene so that we could cure our boredom. We wandered around the Robinson area for a little while. We looked at JoAnns and Petland which made me want to craft and get a cute little purse dog or really any dog at all. We ended up at Coldstone Creamery where I got a Oreo Blast Love it. This medium ice cream was my entire day of weight watchers points. but it was sooo delicious! Barring the weird guy who waved goodbye to us it was an enjoyable experience.

Sunday was uneventful and today was even less so. Right now I should be listening to my night class instructor because we have a test. However, that requires me to care about the class...and I just can't seem to even listen when I don't have my computer...Fingers crossed that I at least pass this class.

Attack of the Library...

I love books....just not this much

So, lately I have been carving a little nook for myself in the RMU library over the past few days. Everyday except Fridays I have a break from 10-1pm. Now this is three hours that I can accomplish a lot in. I could even go home since I only live 5 minutes away. However, I am just not motivated enough to climb the monster of a hill to my parked car in these freezing temperatures. Instead I camp out in the Library until Kim or Darlene want to join me for lunch. Also, I am my sorority's academic chair. I am in charge of study hours so I get to spend another 3 hours in the library for those.

On one hand this is fantastic. I am spending hours each day in the library working on class work and my thesis. At this rate I will have my thesis done before it is any where near due! Fingers crossed...

On the other hand I am sitting for hours and hours each day staring at text in books and on a screen. my eyes are going buggy and I am getting headaches. The worst part is I have giving up reading actual books I like so that I can get more work done...I miss the happy ending! Research papers never end with two people happily married...or at least they don't write about it :P

Also I am starting to look like this:
FYI: I was sticking my tongue out at Kim and going insane so that's why I look like a freak.

Still haven't decided if I am liking my library time or hating it...oh well maybe someday soon I will be able to read for fun again...

Tabitha

VLOG!!!!!

So I totally Video Blogged! aka Vloged!

So somehow I managed to figure out how to make a video, and post it onto my blog all by myself without any help from Kim. Granted I am not stupid, but I am sometimes not the most computer literate person. And other times technology just hates me lol. I mean just watch this video as you can hear it is the fourth time I shot it...the first two wouldn't upload and the 3rd has sound difficulties :/ I am also a little quiet...at least on my computer.

So I guess by saying these words and answering these questions you can kind of tell where I am from. Kim did it earlier while I was there and so I decided to do it too.
Say these words: Aunt, Route, Wash, Oil, Theater, Iron, Salmon, Caramel, Fire, Water, Sure, Data, Ruin, Crayon, Toilet, New Orleans, Pecan, Both, Again, Probably, Spitting image, Alabama, Lawyer, Coupon, Mayonnaise, Syrup, Pajamas, Caught

Now answer these questions:
What is it called when you throw toilet paper on a house?
What is the bug that when you touch it, it curls into a ball?
What is the bubbly carbonated drink called?
What do you call gym shoes?
What do you say to address a group of people?
What do you call the kind of spider that has an oval-shaped body and extremely long legs?
What do you call your grandparents?
What do you call the wheeled contraption in which you carry groceries at the supermarket?
What do you call it when rain falls while the sun is shining?
What is the thing you change the TV channel with?

So since I successfully made a vlog I rewarded myself with a candy bar...I did it a little early since it took a few tries to get it to actually load and have sound...but, for those of you that know me I usually stay away from the candy cause it is too many points. This was worth it :P

Cheers,
Tabitha

I should be sleeping...

But I am just not tired...

So for some insane reason I allowed my boss to schedule me to work every morning at 8am. So by working backwards we can see: Since it takes 5mins to log on to the computer and sign into work I need to be at the desk by 7:55am. It takes 10mins to walk from the parking lot to Franklin so I need to be out of my car by 7:45am. If it hasn't snowed like crazy the night before it takes about 15mins to get in my car and drive to campus so I have to leave my apartment by 7:30am. It takes me about 20mins to eat breakfast and get dressed so I have to be out of the shower by 7:10am. It takes me about 20mins to get in and out of the shower so my alarm clock has to go off at 6:50am. Seeing as I cannot function properly without at least 7-8 hours of sleep I have to be in bed by 10:50-11:50pm. Before this semester started I would stay up till 2-3am. Now I can barely stay up past 11pm. I feel like such an old person! I should not be getting up at 8am everyday of my senior year...but I would rather be getting a paycheck so I think I will continue to grow up.

Today I felt so very mellow. I was sitting in the cafe at school for about hour just listening to slow pop like John Mayer's Who Says. I hadn't felt that at ease in forever. It was fantastic. I hope to stay this content for the next few days...but I am sure it won't last til the morning let alone the week.

Ok so much for the not being tired. My head just started to get heavy and I am going to give in so that I can make it out the door on time. Though I am sure I will prob wake up every hour on the hour from 4am till 6:50am like I did last night. Ick...lol oh well...

Goodnight all!

Tabitha

Its like a crimescene...

...In my pants (In case you're wondering...its a quote from the movie)

So I just got home from a fantastic girls night out with Kim and Darlene. We went to the movies to see No Strings Attached. You know the new movie about being f*** buddies staring Ashton Kutcher and Natalie Portman. I consider this movies to be awesome because at one point I was brought to tears laughing and the ending didn't make me cry in a sad way. I think the only negative things about the movie was that we went to see it the night it came out. Therefore the theater was packed with all the annoying people you hope won't be there; annoying giggly talkative girls, couple on a date who don't mind PDAs...Luckily I got to sit in the middle and didn't have to be too near others...

WARNING: If you want to see the movie and be surprised don't read the next section.

Things I officially am adding to my wish list for a man because of this movie:
1)Bring me cupcakes when I am on my period.
2)Make me a period mix tape <3 lol
3)Holding a cute puppy..so adorable!
4)The words "If you come any closer I am never letting you go"

Note: Two gay dads is not necessary but that would be a bonus lol!

So if I hadn't been more sad about my lonely single existence I got to watch more two people fall in love and end up happily ever after...fabulous...

We went to Cadillac Ranch for dinner after the movie. It was crazy loud but at least the music they were playing was good. Someone who will not be named *Cough* Darlene *Cough* ordered from the kids menu. I mean this is no big deal, but she didn't even fight to get her free dessert. :) It was so insanely cold outside and in my car. I am surprised none of us froze to death on the ride home.

Tabitha

There is a first time for everything!!!

I. Am. A. Bridesmaid!!

Remember that surprise Darlene had for me? Well, She asked me to be a bridesmaid!! She gave me a rose wrapped in turquoise and silver ribbons with a card (pictured above) tied on it. I am so excited!! Kim (also a bridesmaid) and I are going to take her dress shopping!! We are all going to play the princess and try on dresses...but mostly we are going to have fun!!

I have never been a bridesmaid before, but now I can't stop thinking about all the fun stuff we are going to get to do:

Bridal Shower
Bachelorette Party
Wedding
Reception

It is so exciting! Mostly because I am so happy for Darlene because she is a fantastic person and deserves a beautiful wedding. Also, because I feel so honored that she picked me to be involved in her wedding! <3

I asked for a new adventure this year and this will definitely be an amazing one!

Tabitha

Ow! My A**!!!!

Oh what a Day!

So, today was an awesome day! Kind of....lol...maybe...

This morning wasn't too bad. I managed to pull myself out of bed at 6:50am to enjoy some reruns of Boy Meets World while I got ready. I did a little extra this morning! Instead of just having an orange I had a bagel thin, too. I also made some tea! It was Earl Grey Breakfast tea that I still had left over from London :) Morning work went fast, and I did a little thesis research! It was a good start to the day!

Lunch was an interesting experience to say the least. Darlene, Stacey, and a few other people dropped by. We sat by the table where a guy was giving away newspapers. Every ten seconds we heard the guy say "free paper...Its free everyday you know." It was incredibly annoying, lol. Before leaving the guy gave us highlighters and a bag...which is weird because we were making fun of them the entire time...I guess he didn't hear us :) Lunch was a little weird though. I checked my email and had this really weird out of character email from my boss...

Afternoon work and class were really uneventful. Saw a few more friends and went home to relax for the day...Unfortunately the parking lot had a different plan...Leaving my car I slipped on a giant patch of ice. Luckily there wasn't anyone around to witness my humiliation...Walking into my apartment I could feel the bruise forming on my a**. The moment I walked in the door I knew I had forgotten my phone. Walking out to the car again I almost slipped on the same patch of ice because my boots have zero traction.

I have no plans for the rest of the day, but Darlene has a surprise for me!! Yay! I wonder what it could be :)

Tabitha

Icy...

Hello Again,

It seems that a lot of things have grown cold in my life over the past week. Waking up to an ice covered car this morning seemed to be the culmination of the cold. Now I know this sounds like I am being severely depressing but its really just the facts. Over the past week, I have become bored with almost everything: school, research, snow, clothes, people, tv, music, movies...and to top it off the guy I was talking to just stopped talking to me.

WARNING: Rant to follow...

...Who does that? I mean I could talk to him first but I have been doing that all along...he could show some effort...I tell you I like you, you tell me you like me and then...nothing? I mean I can totally get it if you don't want to talk to me or you changed your mind, but seriously grow some balls and tell me that! I am not some porcelain doll that will break if you don't like me...And men say women are complicated. Whatever...I'm digressing...

I think the boredom with everything stems from the fact that I am worried about my future. I am stressing over it as if not having a good job as soon as I graduate college is end of the world. I don't remember when I began to feel like having a good job was the most important thing in the world. I forgot that the only thing I really need to be happy is to be surrounded by people I love. (Perhaps it is the $46,000 in debt I have) Oh well I guess it is great to know that no matter how far I would ever fall there are people that will be there to pick me up.

Cheers,
Tabitha

Snow...Snow...Snow!!!

Brrr!!! It is snowing!!!

Granted I know that this is not the first snow of the winter season; however, this is the first big snow. What does this mean? Well, let me share the Stats of today with you.

Times I Cleaned off my car: 3
Times I Slipped in the snow: 4
Times I Couldn't feel my fingers: 6

Luckily for me, I am driving my moms old suv instead of my tiny car. I didn't have too much trouble driving around. My roommate on the hand is driving a tiny little car like I normally do, and it is crappy in the snow. The roads are pretty clear now, so she would be fine except our housing plan is still covered. I don't think the plan is big on salting the roads or the sidewalks for that matter.

Another thing about today is that everyone went into crazy we're gonna get snowed in mode. Therefore, they attacked the grocery stores clearing them of the basics like milk, bread, and for some reason Progressive Chicken Noodle Soup. Normally this wouldn't bother me a bit, but I stupidly decided that today was going to be my grocery shopping night. And I happen to love Progressive Chicken Noodle Soup so it was on my shopping list. Getting everything else on my list made settling for vegetable soup easier.

It still doesn't compare to my Snowmageddon adventures from last year...but the winter is young yet. There is still time.

Cheers,
Tabitha

A New Year...New Plans??

Welcome!

Its a new year so I feel the need to make some new plans and changes. What have I already done? Well, a new year calls for a new ring tone. Now my phone plays Enrique Iglesias's Tonight. What do I still plan to do? First, I know people call these New Years Resolutions. I don't know about you, but every time I make a "New Years Resolution" it never works out. But every time I make a "Plan" I stick with it till the end. I don't know why these difference in words cause a difference reaction but hey whatever gets me to do it. So here is my list of Plans for the year.

1. Get to my goal weight using Weight Watchers
I have already lost 60+ pounds and the last 30 are killing me. I am going to do it!

2.Finish my Honors Thesis
I have been dreading this since I heard of it Freshman year, but I finally have a topic I am interested in.

3. Graduate from College
This plan is really easy. All I have to do is pass my last semester. As long as I stay focused this should be easy.

4. Get a Job in Pittsburgh
I would love to get a job in general, but I would love to work around my family.

5. Go on a date or out with friends.
I have been way to boring over the past few weekends. I need to spice up my life.

6. Visit a friend in another state.
I know a ton of people from all over. I keep saying I am gonna visit, but never do. This year I will.

7. Go to Disney/The Wizarding World of Harry Potter
I don't really have t do much. Family already has this planned :)

8. Spend less and Save More!
I need to stop spending money and start saving some so I can pay off my loans.

9. Finish a Story.
I have an overactive imagination. I have been coming up with stories in my head for as long as I can remember. I just can't seem to finish one. This year it will happen.

10. Do something new and exciting.
Last year, I went to London. Someone asked what are your plans for this year. I didn't know what to say. I am open to new and exciting ideas. Anyone have any thoughts on what I could do to make this year exceptional?

As you may have noticed the typical goals are there. But there is nothing typical about me. I don't plan on giving up in the next week when I get tired of eating salad or doing research. Last year was fantastic, probably one of the best years of my life. I am open to suggestions on how this year could be even better.

Cheers,
Tabitha
